北极星课程作为托福学习的基础课程，为我们学生积累素材，提高听说读写各方面能力奠定了良好的基础。在北极星阅写课上，我们会学习到各个主题的原汁原味的外文文章，这些文章的话题素材丰富，很多都与我们托福口语，或是写作的独立任务题材密切相关。下面我们来看下，如何在学习北极星的过程中积累口语或是写作素材：
我们以北极星4为例，先来看下学习到的文章目录
第一单元
第一单元主题是autistic savant,讲述了自闭症天才Daniel Tammet的生活，介绍了他的abilities and disabilities.
第二单元
第二单元的主题是facing life obstacles,文章主要介绍了Frank Mccourt，讲述了他的悲惨童年，作为老师的教育经历，以及Angela's Ashes这本书的创作经历，最终获得了The Pulitzer Prize.
这两个单元除了正文中的人物介绍外，在后面的练习中也提到了 Mozzart is considered a prodigy because he was able to play the piano by age four and start composing by age six; Michael Jordan said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up.Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
