今天要学的词对是表示“揭示--掩盖”的。
表示“揭示”的词有：
betray, reveal, demonstrate, disclose, manifestation
与之相反，表示“掩盖”的词有：
disguise, guise,feign, camouflage, mask, masquerade, veneer, belie
我们将平常用法中不常见的词做了高亮区分，大家可以重点眼熟这些词。
同时找了两个例题为大家展示这些词是如何应用在题目中的。
例题详解
例1：
Some biologists argue that each specifically human trait musthave arisen gradually and erratically, and that it isthereforedifficult to isolate definite ________ in the evolutionof thespecies.

1. 观察结构：therefore，前后两句是因果关系
2. 已知对象：human trait
3. 已知特征：have arisen gradually and erratically
4. 对应对象：the species
5. 未知特点：
人类的特点在逐渐不规则增加，因此在生物进化过程中很难将绝对的______区分开。既然特点是逐渐不规律增加的，那么进化就应该很难区分绝对的时间段和规律。
我们看选项：
A fluctuations波动，起伏
B generations 世代
C predispositions 倾向
D milestones 里程碑
E manifestations 揭示，显露
milestones强调阶段性成果，因为进化是很难区分绝对的时间段的，所以是没有阶段性的，选择D更为符合。
例2：
Despitevigorous protestations, the grin on the teenager's face ________ her denial that she had known about the practical joke before it was played on her parents .
A belied
B illustrated
C reinforced
D exacerbated
E trivialized
1. 观察结构：despite，让步转折，尽管……主句一定有个“但是”。所以是反义重复。
2. 已知对象：vigorous protestations
3. 对应对象：her denial that she had known about the practical joke before it was played on her parents
4. 已知关系：尽管她抗议
5. 未知关系：尽管她抗议，她的笑容还是“……”否认（她不知道那个恶作剧）
否认对应抗议，所以肯定是否认不起作用、不作数。
我们看选项：
A belied 削弱；掩盖
B illustrated 解释
C reinforced 加强
D exacerbated 加重
E trivialized 琐碎，平常
能够表示“不起作用、不作数”的词就是A
我们注意这里的词belie，上一期我们也学了，表示削弱，反驳；这一次我们知道它的另一个意思“掩盖、隐藏”。不过在本题中，它的意思依然是削弱。
这里再次强调：
很多高频词汇不一定是正确答案，但这并不意味着我们不需要记忆，
否则我们无法排除错误答案。
