H3N2 virus causes influenza pandemic in south China

China's health authority says the current flu outbreaks in southern China, including Hong Kong, are mainly caused by the influenza A virus subtype H3N2.

It's reported that the flu pandemic has so far caused over 300 deaths in Hong Kong and the disease has spread to neighboring Guangdong province, especially the neighboring city of Shenzhen.

For the past three weeks, the flu alert has been kept at the highest level in Shenzhen, as over 2,000 cases have been identified since June at the border check points between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

New York is home to the largest ethnic Chinese population outside of Asia.

It's estimated that around 800,000 Chinese were living in the city as of 2015.

Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday to vote in a fiercely contested presidential election.

More than 1,200 people were killed and 600,000 others displaced during the 2007-08 post-election violence.

Michael Brown Jr. was shot to death by then-officer Darren Wilson, who said he fired in self-defence, and a grand jury declined to indict him.

The shooting led to days of protests, riots, and violent clashes between protesters and the police.
