　　不过 [ bùguò ]

　　读bú guò（遵从变调规则读bú，但实际为bù）

　　1. adv. [仅仅] only; merely; nothing but;

　　她不过是个孩子。

　　Tā bùguò shì gè háizi。

　　She's but a child.

　　他的知识也不过如此。

　　tā de zhīshi y? bùguòrúc?。

　　So much for his knowledge!

　　2. conj. but; nevertheless;

　　用在后半句的开头， 表示转折

　　e.g.

　　他看上去笨头笨脑的，不过很讨人喜欢。

　　tā kànshàngqù bèntóu bènnǎo de，bùguò hěn tǎorénxǐhuan。

　　He looks slow-witted, but he is very likable.

　　我是醉了，不过醉得没那么厉害。

　　wǒ shì zuì le，bùguò zuì de méi nàme lìhai。

　　I'm drunk, but I'm not that drunk.

　　3. no more than

　　用在形容词性的词组或双音形容词后面， 表示程度最高

　　E.g.

　　说起踢足球，对我来说再容易不过。

　　shuōqǐ tīzúqiú，duì wǒ lái shuō zài róngyì bùguò。

　　Speaking of football, it was just something that came naturally to me.
